You know there is a Japanese say: the nail that sticks out, gets hammered down. Quite frankly, I don't see myself as a nail that sticks out, it is an analogy for crying out loud. Assuming that you are walking down the street, minding your business, which means you are window shopping and looking at things on display- how can one be the nail that sticks out!!
If let's say a Chinese in among say Caucasian or Indian faces, and people wants to hammer down the Chinese who sticks out among minority- how then can it be possible to hammer something down, when it is trying to be self effacing.
And then, if let's say I am Chinese who is very outlandish, loud and critical- and I always act differently- among all Chinese that is, how will that be possible when you are minding your own business. This means that if you do your job nicely for me, why would anyone bother to be loud just to make sure that you get things done.
If let's I live in a homogenous society, when I am living in a "heterogeneous" society, the last thing I want is for someone to mind my business because minding my business means having to deal with someone who breaks the mould- hence how do you hammer the nail down that does not want to stick out. This continue to puzzle me.
The pathological thing about other's is that they want to pluck out the nail and hammer it down. I think this is because they are living in a dream- I, and we live in a heterogeneous society, this means that difference is the one thing that is most common hence they cannot deal with it, so they find someone whom can accept that and have assimilated well and tell them to keep it within themselves. This is almost related to the previous post where, it has issues with self-esteem and confidence of the person. They are afraid of an overload of senses that the only they can do is to find someone familiar and stick with them. And if these people reject them, the problem must lie with them and not themselves because they believed that everyone thinks like them and only want to hang with people whom are familiar with them.
And so since you cannot deal with what I call an assimilation or melting pot policy, you can always go for a pluralistic policy, where everyone only deals with each other in the market place and hang among themselves in other times. But when I actually try this policy, I notice one simple thing: they become even more oppressive towards each other than open to each other. This is because they are so afraid of the external environment, they want to feel powerful and subjugate each other to each other's power. I found it quite regressive actually. This is paranoia mix with fear and mix with sense of helplessness.
And so, I simply just ignore all these very weird actions of people "plucking" the nails out: and hammering it out again. This is done by making one feel uncomfortable and making that it is different and than criticizing them. I almost found it regressive. This is because why do you want to level everyone out rather than bettering oneself. Isnt that what positive thinking is about.
At this current moment, I have a "out of sight and out of mind" policy and if you feel weird and feel lousy about yourself, that is your problem. I don't need to entertain people- having the nail being plucked out and being hammered back again. The nail don't need to listen to these nonsense.
Besides, when I go out, I have things I want to do. I am not there to entertain you.
P/S: I know my flaws, you don't need to keep reminding me. I am not perfect- and no I am not nail and neither are you a hammer. You are human- so act like one.
