What is important to you is also what is unimportant to you.

I was watching various channels on the mainstream television just now. I have come to realise that I am getting older. My expectations were a little off the mark about how fast people are absorbing alternatives. I begin to understand why some of the older folks feel a sense of insurgency of the speed of which things are changing. This means that their worldview, their sense of reality, their verisimilitude is under siege from the way they understand things. This is very normal.

Each epoch, each age goes through a pace of nostalgia of where the old is always better and the "good old times" always seem to be a much better time. The youth on the other hand will embrace change and a change a guard and a change of order and that change is the only way forward.

Youth on the other hand do not have the baggage of the past by which their worldview is fresh and everything is possible. They do not have this sense of insurgency by which panic and fear is symptomatic of their worldview. This is simply because they do not know have formed a worldview by which they make sense of the world yet.

Everyone have to find meaning in their life and this will form their worldview in time to come. They will have the exact same feeling as their parents after a few more years of gaining experience.

I once talk about nihilism and where nothingness is where meaning is nothing. And since meaning is nothing- therefore, everything is possible. I think some people might have taken as everything is possible because everything is nothing. This is patently wrong.

Before one is able to be nihilistic and reach a personal high, one must formed a meaning first. That is when angst, anxiety and bad faith can be broken, and that is when you have breached your own personal nihilism. You cannot fast forward this step- simply because when you simply follow every single fad, you become nothing more than speck of sand on the river.

And that is exactly what some young trend setters get patently confused. If you read the tabloids, you will read one after another young star committing suicide or taking drugs or behaving badly- simply because there is no meaning in their life- and their animal spirits and Dionysian spirit take them to places they are not capable of handling.

The opposite of this angst, anxiety and bad faith is ecstasy, underground and artificial high. They are always looking for the next high- I was watching the movie Savages- and that is exactly what, a person without meaning which means that they are empty to start with will look like after reaching a realistic high and then they start to look for a synthetic high.

You cannot be nihilistic without feeling that the world is collapsing around you first. This is simply like a kid telling everyone that he is the coolest kid in the world without knowing that it is the world that him/her cool and not the other way around.

That is when you feel a shortness of breath, a sense of panic and that is when you break from your mould which accompanies you for your previous life.

The old on the other hand, and I can safely tell you that I am quite comfortable and I am no longer willing to go through that phase anymore. I have crack too many personal achievements that I do not need to prove to myself or anyone anymore. But you see, I don't have this sense of panic like many of the older folks because I have been through the phase but many especially the generation before mine, does not have the same luxury of education, technology and communications that we have the last 20-30 years. Hence the speed by which things are changing are simply catching them unawares and making them very nervous.

My friends and I were considered the first generation which are somewhat proficient with all things technology and we do not have an innate aversion towards technology. But I can safely tell to all the young folks that change is relentless and technology will keep on moving forward and I can guarantee you will not be able to keep up with the times all the time- and you will have the same sense of panic that your parents are experiencing right now just by different things.

Maybe in 10-20 years, you have friends going to the moon and then there are some whom have gone to the abyss and come back- and so do you feel left out, you will. During my time, the ability to travel is in itself a privilege. Now flying is like taking a bus. That is the difference. things will keep changing, technology will keep improving and you will wish- like your parents now that- you were when you are in your 20s.

Every generation goes through this age. I think you people are quite lucky where the opposition is not as strong as before but no one can always stay on the edge- not even United States, which is considered the forefront of everything, or it's Asian cousin, Korea. Everything comes with a price.

To be sure with you, just a decade ago, my dad tell me, never to buy a Korean car, and now look at your phones, computers and cars. Who knows, in time to come, people will start buying Burmese cars or watch Burmese drama and you are holding your Samsung Galaxy and say that you people are so stupid and then your little niece or nephews start to laugh at you too.

Your worldview is already formed and how you makes sense of the world is already quite sticky. And I can assure you that, the last laugh is on you and not by you.
